Blueair Air Purifier: Positives Vs Negatives

Blueair is a Swedish based company that specializes in air purifiers. It was first established in 1996. Since then it has become one of the most popular brands in the market. The largest markets for the Blueair Air Purifier are the United States, Korea, and China. The company is renowned for being innovative and practical in its designs and features. For more than 10 years, Blueair Air Purifiers have boasted the highest Clean Air Delivery Rates (CADR) of any other company, which are verified by AHAM.

People tend to choose these products because they are efficient, quiet and use less energy than other brands. To see prices and reviews for any Blueair Air Purifier, click this link to amazon.

What Is Unique About Blueair?
There are some key features of Blueair Air Purifiers that set them apart from the rest. Generally, these air filters are considered to be on the top end. They are more expensive and produce higher quality products. The price is not significantly higher, but you would not consider them to be cheap. So if finding an air purifier at the lowest price is your main goal, then it is probably best to look at Idylis Air Purifiers or the Honeywell 50250-S.

HEPASilent Technology
Blueair have invented a HEPASilent technology, which allows the purifier to run with very little noise. Keep in mind that every air purifier will make some noise. Many people have commented how they can barely tell the machine is on when using a lower setting, the medium setting like a running computer and the highest settings a bit louder than that. In many of the reviews people have said that it is not completely silent, but makes a lot less noise than a regular air purifier.

A normal HEPA filter must be able to capture 99.97% of all particles 0.3 microns or above. The HEPASilent filter catches 99.97 of all particles 0.1 microns or larger. That is going above and beyond the standard set by the United States Department of Energy! However, most of the allergens the product is targeting are 0.3 microns or larger. So although this helps in the process, being able to catch smaller particles is not a major factor.

Energy Efficient
Another feature that customers have been particularly pleased with is the energy costs of these air purifiers. Blueair says that, “on average it costs no more than a single light bulb to run a Blueair system continuously day and night.” For many customers, this is a big plus. We are all concerned about saving energy and money. Having a large machine that needs to be running constantly can potentially be costly. So having an electronically efficient air purifier that covers a large amount of space is important!

Award Winning Design
This may sound like a small concern, but the Swedish design adds a bit of style to the product. Many customers have noted how much they like the look of these purifiers as well as the performance. Blueair air purifiers are made from galvanized steel and are very durable. The award-winning Swedish designs seem to agree with most areas that they are placed in. If you are concerned about the interior design of your house, this may play a part in your preference.

Non-Harmful Ionization Process
Some of the Blueair air purifiers use ionizers, which can produce ozone. When consumed in the home this can be potentially harmful. However, the ionization that Blueair air purifiers use does not in fact create any excess ozone. This process has been tested and certified by the California Air Resource Board.

Used in the US Embassies in China and India
Many of the US Embassies have chosen to install Blueair air purifiers in their offices. These can be found in the heavily polluted areas of China and India. This was done in order to give the workers more incentive to live in these areas. This was done right before President Obama visited the Embassy in Delhi. So if they trust this brand with the President’s health, it means it must be effective.

Other Things To Consider?
Filter Change
Due to the nature of the filters being used in the HEPASilent technology, they will need to be changed fairly regularly. Again, this is a matter of quality over price. This needs to be changed so often because it doesn’t have a pre-filter. A pre-filter will usually collect the larger particles and can be changed separately to the main filter. So if you don’t change the air filter on these purifiers regularly, they will get clogged! The average life of a Blueair filter is about 6 months. The upside of this is that you don’t have to fork out for costs of a pre-filter.

Cost of Upkeep
This regular changing of the filters leads to the next concern: The costs of maintaining the air purifier. Because each filter will need to be changed every six months, the costs of upkeep can be a little high. The filters range from $40 to $150 depending on the model and features of the filter. However, the lower energy costs are going to save you money on the electricity bill. So the bottom line with costs of maintenance is: You will need to replace expensive filters regularly, but will have lower electricity costs.

HEPASilent filters are not True-HEPA
Please note that this product does not use a True-HEPA filter. This is not the drawback that it seems and I will explain why… The technology used is a little different to True-HEPA air filters found in other products. If you would like to know more about true-HEPA air filters, please go to the article Everything You Need To Know About HEPA Air Purifiers.

However, as it is certified by AHAM, the product is guaranteed to deliver what it promises. This product can absorb smaller particles than a True-HEPA air purifier with the same rate of efficiency. It can capture the same amount of particles as a True-HEPA filter, but down to 0.1 microns instead of 0.3. So it is just as
efficient as a True-HEPA, it just doesn’t use the same

Which Would You Recommend?
Any air purifier that is made by Blueair will automatically have certain features: HEPASilent filter technology, Swedish design, requires regular filter changes and is energy efficient. Below I have recommended three air purifiers that are the most popular and practical for home use. The more you spend, the more space the air purifier will cover.

Low range
Blueair 203 Slim HEPASilent
This is the best of the lower price air purifiers in the Blueair range. It covers an area up to 240 square feet, has a CADR of 155, is energy efficient, and has most of the great features that Blueair are known for. The decision to buy this model boils down to how much space you need to decontaminate.

If you have an area of 240 square feet or less, then this is an excellent choice! Many customers use the 203 in their bedrooms and give positive reviews of this product.

Mid range
Blueair 503 HEPASilent
Many of the features of the 503 are similar to the 203 mentioned above. But the main difference is that it is more powerful and covers a much larger area. It can decontaminate an area up to 580 square feet, has a CADR of 375, 4-speed settings and runs quietly.

Many customers have commented how noise is barely noticeable on the lower 2 settings. So if you struggle with noise in the background when you are trying to sleep or just in general, this is a great choice!

High range
Blueair 650E Digital HEPASilent
The 650E is designed to decontaminate larger areas than your average air purifier. It can capture 99.97 of airborne particles larger than 0.1 microns in size. This is a third smaller than a regular HEPA filter! This air purifier covers an area up to 698 square feet, it has a CADR of 450 (which is the highest in the world!!), is very efficient on energy, and filters air in a space six times larger than your average air purifier. It has automatic speed adjustment that monitors the air and changes the setting to suit the environment. This basically is the best performance air purifier that Blueair make. So if you have a larger space that needs decontamination, this product will not disappoint!!

Although Blueair is at the higher end of the market, not all of their air purifiers are expensive. It all depends on how large an area you need to decontaminate. Their innovative designs and technology set them apart from other brands with reduced noise, lower energy costs, and high Clean Air Delivery Rates. Customers in general, have left very positive reviews and express their satisfaction with Blueair purifiers.
